WikiLeaks

WikiLeaks is a website founded by Julian Assange that has one purpose, to shed light on conflicts and decisions made by governmental powers throughout the world that are being hidden from the public. Examples are videos of U.S. Apache helicopters gunning down civilians in the Middle East, documents showing that the DEA was forced to back down from a investigation connecting drugs to terrorism. Do people have the right to know this information? YES....they absolutely do.

WikiLeaks has brought many questionable calls to light by our government and some will argue that its has caused more harm. But it should not be forgotten that these acts are inexcusable at times and the only way to stop them is to create public knowledge so the public can voice concern and excite change in the actions of our government.

I think that as far as Journalism goes it is a great stride for investigative journalism. It is the freedom of the press to find and release this information. Beyond the investigative Journalism is when these stories are released the media has the opportunity to then turn them into stories to help get the information out to more of the public.

I think that an entity such as WikiLeaks is needed in today's world to help keep in check the decisions that are made by overarching powers. It helps inform the public beyond the propaganda and help get the cold hard facts.

TPP = Evil

The TPP or the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement is the next entity to make a run at limited the freedom of the internet by favoring businesses over our freedom of speech and open use of the internet. Similar to SOPA, and PIPA which also wished to limit the freedom of the internet, but were stopped. This could be a very big problem for internet users if the same does not happen to the TPP. In a nutshell the TPP wants to enforce ISP liability beyond the current stand by holding them much more accountable for the stop of illegal copyright infringement.



What i find very disturbing is how they are almost giving the service providers the job of the judiciary. The TPP wishing to implement a three strike policy which ends with the users' internet access taken away and the identities of the service providers costumers must be given to IP rights holders which causes many problems for the service providers. By making these Service providers enforce these things in limits free speech immensely due the the service providers inability to give low cost servers to users because the costs to enforce.

In my personal opinion the TPP needs to be stopped immediately. Freedom of the internet cannot be taken away because it is more than our internet access we are losing, its our basic freedoms such as speech that we are losing too.
